Travis Witherspoon California League All Star

66ers Centerfielder to Represent High-A Halos in Winston-Salem
June 12, 2012

San Bernardino, CA- Inland Empire outfielder Travis Witherspoon will represent the 66ers in the 2012 California-Carolina League All-Star game in Winston Salem, NC. It is Witherspoon's second straight season going to an All-Star game, having been selected for the Midwest League All-Star Game a season ago.

"It's a great honor," said Witherspoon on his selection. "You want to go down there and represent the Angels and your teammates in a great way."

As of June 11th, Witherspoon was all over the California League leaderboard. He ranks third in stolen bases (24), fifth in runs scored (47) and total hits (80), and is ninth in batting average (.320).

The game is a homecoming of sorts for Travis Witherspoon who in the off season lives in Sumter, SC, roughly a three hour drive from Winston-Salem, NC. "I actually have family in Winston-Salem," said Witherspoon. "My family is going to travel up there and it will be a good time for them to come see me play. I'm definitely happy and excited about that."

The 16th matchup between the two high-A league's all star teams takes place June 19th. The California League has won the last three meetings and the all-time series is even at 6-6-2. Travis Witherspoon and the 66ers have just two series left at home prior to the All-Star break. The 66ers are currently hosting the San Jose Giants, and then wrap up the first half on the road at rival Lancaster. Tickets for all home games are on sale at the 66ers box office and online at www.66ers.com.
