Triple-A roundup: Adams slugging away
St. Louis' No. 8 prospect is 4-for-10 with six RBIs in the Pacific Coast League. He smacked 22 homers at Class A Quad Cities in 2010 and 32 more at Double-A Springfield last year.
In other Pacific Coast League action, Brewers prospect Taylor Green smacked a two-run homer, his first of the season, but Nashville fell to New Orleans, 4-2. Marlins prospect Matt Dominguez led the way for the Zephyrs, answering Green with his own three-run shot.
Nathan Adcock earned his first win of the season with 5 1/3 strong innings in Omaha's 5-0 blanking of Albuquerque. Adcock walked two and struck out five. Tony Abreu recorded a three-hit game to lead the Storm Chasers.
Mike Bianucci also went deep for the third straight game, launching a solo shot to power Round Rock to a 7-2 win at Iowa. Top Cubs prospect Brett Jackson doubled, singled and scored twice in the loss.
Colorado Springs upended Reno, 5-2, thanks to Matt McBride, who collected three hits and three RBIs. Aces starter Joe Martinez pitched seven strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits before exiting.
Conor Gillaspie and Roger Kieschnick both went deep for Fresno in an 11-4 drubbing of Tucson. Kieschnick went 4-for-5 and plated two runs. Daniel Robertson was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles as a lone bright spot for the Padres.
Top Angels prospect Mike Trout went 2-for-3 to raise his early batting average to .538, but Salt Lake lost, 8-2, to Tacoma. Carlos Peguero and rehabbing Adam Moore both went yard for the victorious Rainiers.
Sacramento slid past Las Vegas, 10-8, in a game that featured plenty of offense. Jermaine Mitchell, Daric Barton and Michael Taylor recorded three-hit games for the winning side, with Taylor drilling an early three-run homer. River Cats starter Brad Peacock, making his organizational debut for the A's, gave up four runs -- two earned -- on five hits over six frames. Derek Norris, another former Nationals farmhand, hit his first Triple-A homer.
In International League play, Yankees' No. 1 prospect Manny Banuelos struggled in his season debut and yielded four runs on 11 hits over 3 1/3 innings in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's 4-0 defeat to Syracuse. Nationals' No. 1 prospect Bryce Harper singled once in three at-bats, while starter Yuniesky Maya tossed six strong innings.
Buffalo narrowly escaped Rochester, 4-2, as Vinny Rottino reached base three times and drove in three runs for the Bisons. Starter Chris Schwinden allowed two unearned runs on four hits over five innings.
In Game 1 of a doubleheader, Pawtucket bested Lehigh Valley, 4-1. Veteran Aaron Cook made his debut in the Red Sox system and gave up an unearned run on five hits in a complete game. Jason Repko hit his first homer for the PawSox.
Phillies farmhand Tom Cochran yielded two runs on four hits over five innings as Lehigh Valley salvaged the nightcap. Domonic Brown collected a pair of RBIs for the IronPigs, while former first-round pick Phillippe Aumont worked around two walks in the ninth to record his first save of the season. Pawtucket starter Alex Wilson struck out seven over five innings.
Top Braves prospect Julio Teheran lasted only 1 2/3 innings for Gwinnett, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks. Leadoff hitter Luis Durango paced the G-Braves by going 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs. Rays prospect Brandon Guyer and Major League veteran Jeff Salazar homered for the Bulls, while Leslie Anderson went 3-for-4 with a walk-off double in the ninth.
Conor Jackson homered, singled and drove in two runs as the Knights took the opener of a doubleheader from Norfolk. Infielder Josh Bell smacked a solo shot for the Tides, while Scott Beerer and Chris Robinson also recorded RBIs. Dontrelle Willismade his season debut in relief for Norfolk and was reached for two runs on two hits in 1 2/3 innings.
Jamie Hoffmann belted a two-run homer and Zelous Wheeler also had two RBIs to help the Tides take the second game. Big league veteran Dallas McPherson drove in the Knights' only run with a one-out double in the first inning. Brian Bruney started for Charlotte and fanned five over three frames.
Brandon Boggs homered, tripled, knocked in two runs and scored three times as Indianapolis edged Toledo. Teammate Jordy Mercer recorded four hits to raise his avereage to .500. Brad Eldred led the Mud Hens with a pair of solo homers.
Columbus' Corey Kluber struck out 10 en route to his first win of the season, while Matt LaPorta went deep for the second straight game and knocked in three runs. Corky Miller homered and plated a pair of runs for Louisville.
