Triple-A roundup: Ramirez goes 2-for-2
Five of the game's combined six runs came in the second inning of Salt Lake's 4-2 win over Omaha. Matt Long drove in three of them with a three-run homer in the top of the frame for the Bees. Salt Lake starter Eric Hurley allowed two runs and fanned six over six strong frames. Royals' No. 3 prospect Mike Montgomery allowed three runs in six innings, but suffered his first loss of the season.
Carlos Peguero homered twice and drove in four runs as part of a 3-for-4 day as Tacoma trumped Iowa, 8-2. Despite tying his season high with five walks, Forrest Snow earned his first win in nine tries this season after allowing only one run on four hits over five frames. Luis Antonio Jimenez went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI and is hitting .322 on the season.
J.B. Shuck and Jimmy Paredes both went 3-for-5 with two runs scored apiece out of the top two spots in the Oklahoma City lineup as the RedHawks beat Colorado Springs, 5-3. Mike Hessman's two-RBI single that plated both Shuck and Paredes in the top of the ninth proved to be the difference. Sky Sox starter Rob Scahill struck out 10 -- the second time this season that he has reached double-digits this season in that category -- but couldn't nail down a decision.
Luis Cruz smacked a walk-off double to center field in the bottom of the ninth to give Albuquerque a 3-2 win over Fresno. Francisco Peguero hit a two-run blast in the top of the ninth off Isotopes reliever Wil Ledezma to force the game into the bottom of the frame in the first place. Albuquerque starter John Ely allowed four hits and struck out six over eight shutout innings but didn't factor into the decision.
Randy Ruiz extended his PCL-leading total to 44 with five RBIs -- including a first-inning grand slam -- to lead Reno to a 10-4 victory over New Orleans. Ruiz's 11 home runs rank second in the circuit behind Iowa's Anthony Rizzo. Jake Elmore went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, while hitting two spots ahead of Ruiz. Chris Gutierrez hit a two-run homer for the Zephyrs in his first at-bat after entering the game as a defensive replacement at second base.
Padres' No. 3 prospect Yasmani Grandal doubled twice and added two RBIs while going 3-for-4 in Tucson's 9-3 triumph over Memphis. Jedd Gyorko, who ranks just one spot behind Grandal in the Padres prospect list, went 2-for-5 with his first Triple-A home run and two RBIs. Catcher Steven Hill homered for the Redbirds.
Veteran Chris Woodward went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored in Las Vegas' 10-8 win at home over Nashville. David Cooper homered and added three RBIs of his own for the 51s. Brewers' No. 15 prospect Caleb Gindl, who is hitting .182 after 38 games at Triple-A, was a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three walks for the Sounds.
In the International League, Corey Brown homered in his second straight game and Brett Carroll added a a double and a single in Syracuse's 3-1 win over Toledo. Tanner Roark (3-5) started for the Chiefs, scattering two hits and a walk with four strikeouts over five scoreless innings for the win. Quintin Berry led the Mud Hens with a pair of singles.
Cole Garner homered twice and Steve Pearce went 3-for-5 with a longball of his own to lead Scranton/Wilkes-Barre over Columbus, 9-6. Jared Goedert plated three and Lonnie Chisenhall doubled and drove in two runs for the Clippers.
Hideki Matsui hit a walk-off single in the 10th to push Durham past Charlotte, 3-2. Jesus Feliciano scored twice for the Bulls, while Tyler Kuhn led the Knights with three hits out of the leadoff spot.
Rene Tosoni went 5-for-5, Danny Valencia added a home run, a double and a single and Clete Thomas went yard as Rochester sailed past Gwinnett, 10-1. Red Wings starter Jeff Manship (4-1) surrendered just one run on four hits and a walk with six strikeouts over seven innings for the win. Ernesto Mejia homered for the Braves.
No. 3 Pirates prospect Starlin Marte went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored while Alex Presley hit a three-run homer in Indianapolis' 8-6 defeat of Buffalo. Val Pascucci doubled and drove in two runs for the Bisons.
Andres Blanco homered in the bottom of the 13th to give Lehigh Valley a 7-6 win over Louisville. Kevin Frandsen put together a five-hit game with two doubles and Cody Overbeck also homered for the IronPigs. Daniel Dorn and Kristopher Negron both went yard for the Bats.
Doug Mathis fired off seven one-hit innings without a walk and three strikeouts to pitch Pawtucket past Norfolk, 4-0. Pedro Ciriaco and Mauro Gomez both compiled two-hit games for the Red Sox, while Ronny Paulino and Chris Robinson tripled for the Tides.
