Twins' Hicks wraps up starting job

Outfield prospect goes 4-for-4, scores three times in rout

Aaron Hicks wrapped up the Twins' center-field job by going 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored on Sunday afternoon as Minnesota routed Toronto, 14-5. Manager Ron Gardenhire confirmed to MLB.com that Hicks will be his Opening Day center fielder.

"It feels great," Hicks told MLB.com "It's everything I've been working for since I started playing baseball. So it just feels really good to be named center fielder."

The 23-year-old is batting .350 with 16 RBIs and 16 runs scored in 18 Grapefruit League games. Joe Mauer homered and drove in six runs as the Twins scored 13 of their runs in the first four frames.

Jackie Bradley faced -- and passed -- another test with flying colors, slugging a three-run blast off Phillies starter Cliff Lee and driving in four runs in total as the Red Sox edged the host Phils. Bradley is batting .423 this spring. Fellow Boston prospect Jose Iglesias collected three singles in three at-bats.

No. 3 White Sox prospect Erik Johnson spun four solid innings for Chicago, allowing only one unearned run on two hits and two walks while striking out three. The left-hander has posted a 5.23 ERA in 10 1/3 innings this spring after registering a 2.53 ERA in 92 1/3 innings last season between Class A Kannapolis and Class A Advanced Winston-Salem.
