ValleyCats Bats Explode In Front of Record Crowd
Centerfielder T.J. Steele headlined an explosive offensive effort by the ValleyCats. Steele turned in three hits, three runs batted in, and one run scored. Designated hitter Marques Williams contributed three hits to increase his batting average by over 70 percentage points. Also adding to Tri-City's offense were J.B. Shuck and Mike Diaz who chipped in with two hits each. 'Cats starter Antonio Noguera turned in his best start of the season, going five innings, striking out six and surrendering just one run.
A crowd of 6,630 was on hand for the Fourth of July celebration at "The Joe". Fans lined the outfield berm areas and concourses throughout the game. The attendance was the largest ever recorded at a ValleyCats game, shattering the previous record of 6,132 set on the Fourth of July in 2006. Friday's game was the third sell-out crowd of the season.
Friday's game marks the end of a six-game homestand. The ValleyCats will travel to Hudson Valley for a series against the Renegades before returning home next Wednesday night. Troy Night will be celebrated that evening and Major Tutunjian bobble head dolls will be distributed to the first 1,500 fans at the game.
