Vidal's seven RBIs tie Dayton record

Infield prospect helps Reds affiliate to record-setting night
June 16, 2011
A day after being shut out, David Vidal helped the Dayton Dragons erupt for one of the biggest nights in franchise history.

Vidal homered twice and plated seven runs -- both season highs -- as part of a 3-for-4 effort in Class A Dayton's 14-4 rout of the Fort Wayne TinCaps.

The outing raised his Midwest League batting average nine points to .276 and gave him his first multi-RBI game since plating four runs against Beloit in an 11-10 loss on May 31.

The seven RBIs tied a club record jointly held by Adam Dunn (2000), Joey Votto ('04), and Juan Francisco ('07) and helped the Reds affiliate establish season highs in hits (18), runs and margin of victory.

The third baseman, selected in the eighth round of the 2010 Draft, smashed a two-run shot to right field in the first inning and added a three-run, opposite-field blast in the second. The Florida native then doubled home a two-out run on a fly ball to center field in the fourth, grounded into a fielder's choice in the sixth and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh.

Vidal, now in his first full year of pro ball, plated eight runs on three homers playing for Cincinnati's Arizona League affiliate last July 16 against the Dodgers.

On Thursday, first baseman Dominic D'Anna became the first Dragon to record four hits this year when he went 4-for-6 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Right fielder Donald Lutz added three hits, three RBIs and a walk.

Stalin Gerson (1-0) allowed one run on six hits while striking out four over five innings in his second start of the year for the victory.
