May 23, 2006
Jered Weaver fired a complete-game shutout and tied the Salt Lake record for consecutive scoreless innings as the Bees blanked New Orleans, 9-0, on Monday.

Weaver (4-1), the Angels' top-rated pitching prospect and the younger brother of Los Angeles starter Jeff Weaver, allowed four hits and struck out eight without issuing a walk. The 6-foot-7 right-hander also ran his scoreless streak to 27 1/3 innings, matching the club record set by Kevin Gregg in 2003.

Weaver, who lowered his ERA to 2.05, has 66 strikeouts and eight walks in 57 innings.

Curtis Pride went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs to help first-place Salt Lake (26-17) win its second straight.

Zephyrs starter David Gil (0-3) surrendered nine runs on 12 hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Kenny Kelly went 2-for-3 with a double to pace New Orleans (23-21), but Brendan Harris was hitless in three at-bats, ending his 11-game hitting streak. --Christopher Heine/MLB.com
