Whitecaps Asking Fans to Submit Food Ideas

January 19, 2010
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps have always been known for serving some unique food items at their concessions stands (Deep Fried Twinkies, anyone?), and now, they're asking the public for help.

The Whitecaps are soliciting original ideas for new food items to be served at Fifth Third Ballpark this season. Starting Wednesday, January 20, fans can submit online their ideas and thoughts regarding what new food items they would like to see served at Fifth Third Ballpark this summer.

This is the first time that food ideas will be submitted by the fans, and it goes along with the Whitecaps' philosophy of keeping the fans in the forefront. "We always trying to find new ways to engage the fans," said Whitecaps CEO Lew Chamberlin. "They've been tremendously supportive for the past 16 seasons and we look forward to many more great years. This is a way to give the fans a say as to what food items we serve, and I am confident that we'll get some really unique, great ideas out of this contest."

Some of the more unique concessions items served in the past include Deep-Fried Twinkies, Caesar Salads, Deep-Fried Pepsi, Apple Cider Floats and the Fifth Third Burger, which garnered international attention with its debut last season and will remain on the menu in 2010.

Whitecaps Director of Concessions Matt Timon is looking forward to new and challenging ideas. "Coming to a Whitecaps game consists of many experiences: baseball, family time and of course food. The ballpark dining experience is a big part of what we offer."

Ideas for new items will be taken through February 8 and submissions can be made through the Whitecaps facebook page, the Whitecaps Twitter page or via e-mail at [email protected]. All submissions should be accompanied with a description and a picture, if possible.

Starting February 9 fans will be able to vote for their choice on the new 2010 concessions items. Voting will take place on the Whitecaps website, whitecapsbaseball.com, and will end February 23.

The Whitecaps open the 2010 season at home on Sunday, April 11 against the defending Midwest League Champion Fort Wayne TinCaps at 2pm. Season and group tickets are now on sale; individual tickets for the 2010 season will go on sale Tuesday, January 26 at 10 a.m.

Complete ticket information, including season and group ticket prices and perks, is available at whitecapsbaseball.com.
