Will Ferrell to Visit The Dell Diamond May 6

Hollywood Funnyman to Host Inaugural Will Powered Golf Classic
April 14, 2010

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Comedy legend Will Ferrell is scheduled to make a special appearance at The Dell Diamond for the Round Rock Express game Thursday, May 6, against the Nashville Sounds. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT. Ferrell joins a long list of celebrities to attend Express games, including Matthew McConaughey, Lance Armstrong, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Bill Engvall and Kurt Russell.

Ferrell, star of Step Brothers, Blades of Glory, Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Old School, Elf and the upcoming The Other Guys, will be in Austin as celebrity host of the inaugural Will Powered Golf Classic in conjunction with Cancer for College. The charity golf event takes place Friday, May 7, at Cimarron Hills Country Club in Georgetown, Texas.

"We're excited to have Will Ferrell join us for a game at The Dell Diamond," Round Rock Express owner and CEO Reid Ryan said. "For people of this generation, Will Ferrell is synonymous with comedy. From his days on Saturday Night Live to his sports comedies to the other hilarious movies he has produced, Will is a one-of-a-kind comedic actor. It is an honor to have him join us at The Dell Diamond to experience a night of baseball with the Round Rock Express.

"We're also thrilled to be a part of the charity golf event and want to do all we can to help raise awareness for the Cancer for College organization."

Cancer for College is a 501 (c) 3 charity formed in 1993 by two-time cancer survivor and double amputee Craig Pollard that provides college scholarships to cancer survivors. Ferrell and Pollard are longtime friends and were fraternity brothers at the University of Southern California. Since the inception of Cancer for College, Ferrell has been a devoted supporter of the charity, serving as host to numerous fundraising events and lending his likeness to the wildly popular Will Ferrell Sunscreen products. More information on Cancer for College is available online at www.cancerforcollege.org.

"I really look forward to these Cancer for College events," Ferrell said. "It's such a pure charity. Meeting the scholarship recipients and hearing the stories of the cancer survivors is so inspiring. What they are able to accomplish while dealing with such a terrible disease makes me feel like such a slacker. This event is one of the highlights of my year, and we are excited to be able to grow into the great state of Texas."

Since its inception, Cancer for College has granted over 750 scholarships to cancer survivors from around the United States totaling over $750,000. Proceeds from the Texas event will directly benefit scholarship applicants from or attending schools in Texas.

A very limited amount of golf spots and award dinner tickets are available by calling (760) 599-5096. There will be a kickoff VIP reception in conjunction with Ferrell's appearance at The Dell Diamond. Golf begins the following day at 1 p.m. with an 11 a.m. registration. The awards dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. and features inspirations speeches from scholarship recipients and a hilarious live auction led by Ferrell. The event is proudly presented by Dell and supported by EA, Microstrategy Golf Magazine and the Round Rock Express.

During his visit to The Dell Diamond, Ferrell will interact with fans, visit with the media and discuss his charity on the Express radio broadcast with play-by-play man Mike Capps.

The Express open their 2010 home schedule Friday, April 16, hosting the New Orleans in the opener of a four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at The Dell Diamond.
