Wilson Named PCL Player of the Week

Outfielder bats .500 and hits four home runs for Rainiers
June 18, 2012
TACOMA, Wash. -- Tacoma Rainiers outfielder Mike Wilson was selected the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for June 11-17, the league office announced today.

Wilson batted .500 (12x24) with two doubles, four home runs and eight RBI over six games during that span, leading the Rainiers to five wins over the club's last six games. The 28-year-old led the PCL in home runs, on-base percentage (.571) and slugging percentage (1.083), was tied for second in extra-base hits, tied for third in runs (7) and hits, and tied for fourth in RBI.

Wilson turned in three multi-hit games during that stretch, including a season-high four-hit effort at Salt Lake on June 13 that saw the outfielder hit two home runs and produce three RBI in Tacoma's 14-10 victory over the Bees. The Tulsa, OK belted a three-run home run and collected three RBI in Tacoma's series opener at Sacramento on June 14, then went 3-for-3 with a home run against the River Cats the next night on June 15.

He is the second player to garner a weekly award from the league office this season. Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez earned PCL Pitcher of the Week honors for the period of May 28-June 3. Wilson is the first position player to win since Mike Carp was named the PCL Player of the Week for May 31-June 6.

Originally selected by Seattle in the second round of the 2001 draft, Wilson is currently in his 11th season playing in the Mariners organization and his fourth at Tacoma. He is batting .297 (22x74) with five home runs and 16 RBI through 21 games with Tacoma this season.

The Rainiers return to action tomorrow, June 19, to open a four-game homestand against the Pacific North Division-leading Reno Aces. Right-handed starter Andrew Carraway (2-2, 3.59) is scheduled to take the mound against Arizona Diamondbacks top pitching prospect Trevor Bauer (4-0, 2.68).
