Wrigley, Thompson Lead Bulls Over Tides, 8-0

Norfolk, VA --- Rich Thompson had his second four-hit game in four days, while Chris Archer threw four scoreless innings as the Durham Bulls shutout the Norfolk Tides 8-0 at Harbor Park.

Thompson opened the game with a single, then scored on a run-scoring double by Tim Beckham. Henry Wrigley later lifted a sacrifice fly to right to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, after a single by Will Rhymes and an error allowing Jesus Feliciano to reach, Thompson doubled home two to boost the lead to 4-0. In the Bulls fifth, Wrigley doubled then came home on a wild pitch plus a throwing error by catcher Luis Exposito that sailed into left field.

Archer made his second start since the All-Star break, working four scoreless innings allowing one hit, one walk and fanning three. Archer made 60 pitches, 32 for strikes, but did not factor in the decision.

In the eighth, the Bulls put the game away with three runs. Rhymes keyed the inning with a two-run double to left.

Ryan Reid, Frank DeLosSantos (W, 3-1), Brandon Gomes and Adam Liberatore combined to blank the Tides over the final five innings. DeLosSantos fanned three over his two innings, reaching 96mph on numerous fastballs to record the win.

The shutout was the Bulls' seventh of the season, limiting the Tides to just four hits. The Bulls moved to within 10 of first-place Charlotte, and three of second place Norfolk.

Evan Longoria did not play on Saturday night, and should continue his major league rehab on Sunday night.

The Bulls, now 3-2 on their 8-game road trip, play their second game at Harbor Park on Sunday night at 6:15 PM ET. Matt Torra (8-6) will start for the Bulls.
