Z's lose second straight by 6-5 margin

Buffalo's five-run second inning too much for Z's to overcome
March 19, 2010

Alex Cintron homered from both sides of the plate, leading the Buffalo Bisons past the New Orleans Zephyrs on Friday in spring training action from Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Cintron's first home run came against Zephyrs starter Graham Taylor in the second inning, part of a five-run frame that helped the Bisons overcome an early 2-0 deficit.

Cintron later homered off Nic Ungs, a solo shot in the fifth that provided the eventual winning margin.

The Zephyrs outhit Buffalo 12-7, but a costly error opened the door for four unearned runs in the second inning. Taylor took the loss, allowing four hits in addition to the five runs (one earned).

Left-hander Bobby Livingston struck out three in three scoreless innings of relief for Buffalo to pick up the win.

Jason Lane and Mark Saccomanno had RBI doubles to give the Zephyrs a first-inning lead. Brandon Tripp added a two-run single in the seventh, giving him four RBI through the Zephyrs' first two games.

Lee Mitchell, Jose Torres and Hunter Mense had two hits apiece for the Z's.

Brian Lawrence gave up one hit and one walk while striking out two in two scoreless innings in relief of Taylor, while Todd Doolittle and A.J. Battisto contributed scoreless innings.

The Zephyrs have Saturday off, and will return to action on Sunday against the Memphis Redbirds.
