FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 15, 2017) - The Fort Myers Miracle (32-33) won their fourth and fifth games in a row with yet another sweep of the Charlotte Stone Crabs (29-35) on Thursday night. The first game ended in extras with a walk-off error followed by a 301 win in Game Two.
GAME 1:
Down 2-0 early, Fort Myers fought back to plate a run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch. RHP David Fischer fought through a season-high seven walks to keep the Miracle close over his five innings.
In the bottom of the sixth (of seven), RHP Drew Smith came in to relieve RHP Eduar Lopez. Smith recorded the second out of the inning and had Sean Miller in an 0-2 count with the tying run in scoring position when Miller slapped a single to right field to tie the game. The teams played on into the eighth and ninth, extra innings.
In the bottom of the ninth, Bradley Strong reached against LHP Michael Velazquez (L, 0-4) with a leadoff single. He moved to second on a Brian Navarreto bunt and tagged to third when Max Murphy flied out for the second out of the inning. Alex Perez then sent a bouncing ball to first that was bobbled by Dalton Kelly. Perez beat Kelly and the covering pitcher to the bag allowing the run to score and giving the Miracle the win. RHP Williams Ramirez (W, 2-0) dealt two scoreless innings in extras to earn the win.
GAME 2:
It was a much smoother Game Two win for Fort Myers that saw them leading 3-0 heading into the top of the last inning. An early run in the first laid the foundation for RHP Cody Stashak (W, 2-3) to capture a win in his return from the DL. Stashak was sharp in his five innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five and retiring the last 11 men he faced.
Rafael Valera provided the extra spark against starter LHP Brock Burke (L, 0-2) with a two-run double in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead. LHP Jonny Drozd and RHP Tom Hackimer (Sv, 1) handled the final two innings for Fort Myers in the 3-1 win.
The Miracle are off until Monday during the FSL All-Star break. They then begin a seven-game road trip starting at Roger Dean Stadium against the Jupiter Hammerheads.
