FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 22, 2014) - Fort Myers Miracle center fielder Byron Buxton was named the Florida State League Player of the Week for the period of July 14-20 as announced by League President Chuck Murphy on Monday afternoon.

Buxton, 20, was the second overall pick of the MLB First-Year Player Draft in 2012 by the Minnesota Twins. A native of Baxley, Ga., Buxton played in four games in the past week and went 10-for-20 at the plate with one triple, two home runs, four runs batted in and scored six runs.

In 2014, Buxton has been limited to just 13 games due to a wrist injury sustained in March during Spring Training. For the season, Buxton is hitting .280 (14-for-50) with a double, triple, three homers, six RBI and 10 runs scored. Buxton has also walked five times and stolen two bases. Byron is currently listed as day-to-day for the Miracle, but is not on the disabled list.

Entering the year, Buxton was ranked as the No. 1 prospect in baseball according to both MLB.com and Baseball America. Byron split the 2013 season between Single-A Cedar Rapids and Fort Myers. Overall, Buxton played in 125 games and hit .334 with 19 doubles, 18 triples, 12 homers, 77 RBI and 109 runs scored. He also stole 55 bases and was caught just 19 times.

In July of 2013, Buxton represented the Twins and Miracle organizations as a member of Team USA in the MLB Futures Game at Citi Field in New York, N.Y. At the end of last year, Byron was named the Topps Minor League Player of the Year.
