FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 17, 2017) - Trey Vavra launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Fort Myers Miracle (4-8) to open their series against the Florida Fire Frogs (5-7) with a 2-1 win.
LHP Lachlan Wells (W, 1-1) was stellar in his 2017 home debut, striking out eight Frogs over seven innings without allowing a run. Wells set down the first 13 batters he faced before Jonathan Morales pushed a bunt back to the mound for a base hit.
LHP Tyler Pike was equally as good for Florida, surrendering just two hits over six innings in his start. In the seventh, RHP Andres Santiago (L, 0-2) gave up a single to Chris Paul, and then retired the next two before facing Vavra. On a night where the ball had to be scalded in the humidity to leave the yard, Vavra launched a no-doubter into the berm in left.
LHP Michael Theofanopoulos (S, 1) recorded a six-out save, relieving Wells. Ronald Acuna led off the top of the ninth with a solo home run to cut the lead in half, but Theofanopoulos set down the heart of the lineup in order to shut the door.
The two teams play game two of a four game series on Tuesday night. RHP Dereck Rodriguez makes his home debut for Fort Myers while LHP Drew Harrington starts for the Fire Frogs. Fans can enjoy 2-for-1 tacos, domestic drafts and sodas on 2-for-1 Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:35 PM.
