PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (May 11, 2017) - The Fort Myers Miracle (16-19) received a quality start from LHP Lachlan Wells (L, 1-5), but ultimately fell 3-2 to the Charlotte Stone Crabs (17-17) on Thursday night. RHP José De León struck out seven in his organizational debut.
Fort Myers struck first with a run off De Leon in the opening half-inning. Chris Paul singled up the middle to score Bradley Strong.
In the bottom of the first, the Stone Crabs scored their only runs of the game with five base hits against Wells. Ryan Brett came home to tie the game on a Jake Cronenworth single. Two batters later, Brandon Lowe doubled to right to score Ryan Boldt and give Charlotte the lead. Dalton Kelly followed that up with a double of his own to make it 3-1.
The Miracle grabbed a run back in the top of the second with a Brian Navarreto double that scored Sean Miller from first.
Although the Miracle scattered hits throughout the rest of the game, they could not move a runner into scoring position in an effort to bring home a third run. After De Leon fanned seven over 3.1 innings, RHP Eduar Lopez (W, 3-3) followed with 3.2 scoreless. RHP Drew Smith (S, 2) faced the minimum in a six-out save to close out the game.
Fort Myers and Charlotte play the second of three on Friday night with RHP Chris Anderson battling LHP Génesis Cabrera. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM ET.
