Davis Helps Hooks Clinch Series

September 4, 2016

Corpus Christi clinched its three-game series against San Antonio with a 4-2 win Sunday evening in front of 4,806 at Wolff Stadium

Jerry Keel's Sunday got off to an inauspicious start. The Hooks greeted the lefty with a pair of first-inning runs courtesy of a Drew Ferguson RBI-double and a Nick Tanielu RBI-groundout.

The Missions got one of those runs back in their half of the first against left-hander Kent Emanuel when Nick Schulz followed a Ryan Miller two-out double with a two-bagger of his own.

An inning later, San Antonio tied the game at two with Austin Allen's solo homer to right. It was the catcher's first Double-A long ball.

The Hooks took the lead back for good in the third against Keel with a J.D. Davis RBI-single to left-center.

There would not be another run until the eighth when Davis capped scoring with a solo bomb off Keel (0-2) onto the berm in left. It was the 22nd dinger of the year for the Hooks' designated hitter.

Emanuel (6-4) combined with relievers Ryan Deemes and Jacob Dorris to strike out 14 Missions in the win. The eight from Emanuel was a career high. Dorris fanned three over the last two innings for his fourth save.

San Antonio (36-33, 58-81) wraps up its season against Corpus Christi (37-32, 84-55) Monday at 2:05 PM. Lefty Tim Berry (2-4, 7.78) takes the hill for the Missions, while the Hooks counter with right-hander Cy Sneed (6-5, 4.22).
