San Antonio -The San Antonio Missions are excited to announce that right-hander Enyel De Los Santos was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for April 6-16.
In two starts, De Los Santos went 1-0 with a miniscule 0.75 ERA and a K:BB of 13:2 over 12 innings. During that stretch, the Dominican Republic native led the league in both WHIP (0.33) and AVG (.053), while finishing tied for fourth in innings.
In his Double-A debut on April 8 at Northwest Arkansas, the 21-year-old hurler allowed just one run on two hits and two walks, while striking out six over six innings in San Antonio's 5-3 win.
On Friday night in his Wolff Stadium debut, De Los Santos fanned seven over six perfect innings, throwing 47 of his 64 pitches for strikes. De Los Santos, along with relievers T.J. Weir and Eric Yardley, finished just two outs shy of San Antonio's first ever perfect game en route to a 2-0, series-clinching victory over Northwest Arkansas.
De Los Santos was originally signed by the Seattle Mariners as a non-drafted free agent in July of 2014. San Diego acquired Enyel along with former Mission infielder Nelson Ward in exchange for RHP Joaquin Benoit in November of 2015.
In 26 games (22 starts) last season between Class A Fort Wayne and High-A Lake Elsinore, De Los Santos went 8-5 with a 3.72 ERA.
De Los Santos is currently the No. 17 prospect in the San Diego system according to MLB.com.
San Antonio concludes its six-game homestand this evening against Arkansas at 7:05 PM.
