San Antonio settled for a split of its doubleheader with Frisco Thursday night following a 3-0 loss at Wolff Stadium.
T.J. Weir got a spot start for the Missions in the nightcap. The Kokomo, IN native looked good early, keeping Frisco off the board through three, while allowing just two hits. However, in the fourth, a couple of mistakes proved costly. Following a one-out walk to Andy Ibáñez, Eric Aguilera gave the 'Riders a 2-0 lead when he took Weir's 2-1 pitch over the wall in left. Two batters later, Luke Tendler capped scoring with a solo homer to right. That ended the night for Weir (4-2), who fanned three in his three and two-thirds innings.
The pen duo of Eric Yardley and José Castillo kept Frisco off the board the rest of the way, but the Missions' offense could not solve Pedro Payano (4-4). The righty limited San Antonio to just two hits over five innings and also struck out five against no walks.
Relievers Brady Feigl and Reed Garrett (10th save) each tossed hitless innings to cap the victory.
San Antonio (32-27, 73-56) begins a four-game series with Corpus Christi (24-33, 58-69) Friday at 7:05 PM. The first 2,000 fans to enter The Wolff will receive a free Trevor Hoffman Replica San Diego Padres jersey courtesy of McCombs Ford West. Enyel De Los Santos (9-5, 3.81) will get the ball for the Missions in the opener, while the Hooks counter with fellow righty Josh James (4-6, 3.57).
