Josh Naylor named TL Player of the Week

San Antonio -The San Antonio Missions are excited to announce that 1B/OF Josh Naylor was named Texas League Player of the Week for April 5-15.In his first 10 games of the season, Naylor batted a sizzling .472 (17-for-36) with one double, six homers, 14 RBI, seven walks and 10 runs

San Antonio -The San Antonio Missions are excited to announce that 1B/OF Josh Naylor was named Texas League Player of the Week for April 5-15.
In his first 10 games of the season, Naylor batted a sizzling .472 (17-for-36) with one double, six homers, 14 RBI, seven walks and 10 runs scored. During that stretch, the 20-year-old led the TL in hits, homers, total bases (36), SLG (1.000) and OPS (1.545), in addition to tying for the league lead in RBI and finishing second in both AVG and OBP (.545). Naylor led all of Minor League Baseball during that 11-day span in both homers and total bases, while tying for the MiLB lead in hits.
The Mississauga, ON, Canada native turned in multi-hit efforts in each of his first four contests of the season, highlighted by a two-homer, four-RBI performance during San Antonio's 6-2 win at Arkansas in game one of a doubleheader on April 7. Naylor drove in three more as the Missions swept the double dip with a 5-3 win in the nightcap.
In San Antonio's 3-2 home-opening win over Arkansas on April 12, Naylor added his second multi-homer game of the season, giving the Missions a 1-0 lead in the first with an inside-the-park dinger before tying the game at two in the eighth with a solo blast to deep right center.
Naylor, who entered the season as the No. 14 prospect in the San Diego system according to Baseball America, is batting .396 (19-for-48) with one double, six homers, 15 RBI and 12 runs through 13 games (continued on Page 2). He currently leads the Texas League in homers and RBI and is tied for the league lead in hits.
San Diego acquired Naylor in a trade with Miami on July 29, 2016. In 114 games last season between High-A Lake Elsinore and Double-A San Antonio, Naylor batted .280 (123-for-439) with 25 doubles, two triples, 10 homers, 64 RBI and 59 runs scored.
San Antonio (8-5) resumes its four-game series at Midland (8-5) tonight at 7:00 PM.
