McElroy Powers Missions to 11-1 Rout

San Antonio clinched their series with Corpus Christi following an 11-1 romp Tuesday night in front of 5,351 at Wolff Stadium.

The Missions opened scoring Tuesday with a three-run third inning against Hooks' starter Kyle Smith (4-3). After Cory Spangenberg begin the rally with a one-out infield single, Casey McElroy put San Antonio on the board with a line-drive, homer to right. Four batters later, Austin Hedges capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to center.

The three runs were more than plenty for San Antonio starter Bryce Morrow, who needed just 58 pitches to get through his first six innings. The right-hander's only mistake of the night came in the seventh when Jonathan Meyer's solo homer to left cut the Missions' lead to 3-1. Since his Double-A debut on June 14, Morrow (3-2) leads the Texas League in ERA.at 1.59 (9 ER/51 IP). In his seven innings on Tuesday, Morrow allowed just five hits and one walk, while striking out four.

In the bottom of the frame, Yeison Asencio put San Antonio back in control with a two-run homer to left off reliever Mitchell Lambson.

An inning later, the Missions poured it on against righty Tyson Perez with a six-run outburst, which featured homers by both McElroy and Cody Overbeck. McElroy finished the game 3-for-5 with a career-high, tying 5 RBI and three runs scored. It was the third two-homer game of his career. Five of his seven homers this season have come against Corpus Christi.

The Missions' win was their third in a row and their fifth straight against the Hooks.

San Antonio (16-16, 52-50) and Corpus Christi (16-16, 50-52) wrap up their three-game series Wednesday on Military Appreciation Night presented by Air Force Federal Credit Union. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM. Justin Hancock (1-1, 4.07) will get the ball for the Missions, while the Hooks counter with fellow righty Brady Rodgers (4-10, 4.55).
