Missions Fall On Walk-Off Single

July 29, 2014

FRISCO-The Missions suffered their fifth walkoff loss of the month Saturday night in front of 7,084 at Dr. Pepper Ballpark.

Patrick Cantwell hit a looping linedrive off reliever Josh Geer that just cleared the glove of second baseman Casey McElory to score the winning run from third.

The Missions had knotted the score in the eighth on a wild pitch.

Joe Ross was solid in his second appearance and first start at the Double-A level. The Mission righty struck out eight and allowed just six hits over seven innings, including a Drew Robinson wind-aided homer to left.

The loss dropped the Missions to 11-23 in division road games and was their 22nd one-run defeat. Only Corpus Christi (23) has lost more one-run decisions in the Texas League. It was also the 22nd time they've lost in the opponents final at-bat.

Notebook: Cory Spangenberg extended his team-high hitting streak to 12. He needs one more hit to become the first Mission since Mike Baxter and Craig Cooper in May, 2009 to collect 40 hits in a calendar month.

Next Up: Monday Missions RH Bryce Morrow (3-2, 1.59) @ Frisco RH Jerad Eickhoff (7-7, 4.33) 6:05 PM
