Missions Gain Split with 4-2 Win

July 16, 2014

San Antonio earned a split of their four-game series with Frisco following a 4-2 win Wednesday night at Wolff Stadium.

The Missions wasted little time getting on the board against RoughRiders' starter Alec Asher (7-9), plating a pair in the first courtesy of an Austin Hedges RBI single and a Yeison Asencio run-scoring fielder's choice.

Jason Hagerty pushed the San Antonio lead to 4-0 in the third when he followed Casey McElroy's leadoff single with a two-run homer to right. It was Hagerty's 10th long ball of the season, which is the second most on the club.

In the top of the fourth, Trever Adams got the 'Riders on the board with a solo homer to right off Missions' starter Bryce Morrow.

Two innings later, Frisco threatened to make a much bigger dent into the San Antonio lead. The RoughRiders opened the frame with three consecutive singles to load the bases and end the night for Morrow. Southpaw Jeff Ibarra entered for the Missions and limited the damage, allowing just a one-out RBI single to J.T. Wise.

That would be as close as Frisco would get as the San Antonio bullpen of Ibarra, John Hussey and Luis De La Cruz (3rd save) allowed just one hit over the final three innings.

Morrow (2-2) earned the win with five innings of two-run, seven-hit ball. San Antonio pitching combined to strike out 11 batters against no walks in the victory.

San Antonio (49-47, 13-13) hits the road Thursday to begin a crucial four-game series against first-place Midland (54-41, 16-9). First pitch from Security Bank Ballpark will be 7:00 PM. Justin Hancock (1-1, 3.15) will get the ball for the Missions, while the 'Hounds counter with fellow righty Drew Granier (5-4, 3.09).
