Missions Walk off Hooks to Complete Sweep

Diego Goris' sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth lifted San Antonio to a thrilling, come-from-behind, 5-4 win Wednesday night at Wolff Stadium.

The Hooks took a quick lead Wednesday, when Tony Kemp led off the game with a homer to right off Missions' starter Justin Hancock.

Two innings later, Corpus Christi pushed its lead to 4-0 with consecutive two-out, RBI singles by Conrad Gregor, Jonathan Meyer and Andrew Aplin.

San Antonio had trouble managing much offense against Corpus Christi starter Brady Rodgers, who allowed just one run on one hit and one walk, while striking out three over four and a third innings. However, the Missions took advantage of Rodgers' exit in the fifth, cutting their deficit to just one against southpaw Luis Cruz. After Brian Bixler got San Antonio on the board with an RBI base knock to left center, Cory Spangenberg followed with a two-run single up the middle.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the eight when the Missions tied the game on a key Hooks' error. Spangenberg ignited the rally with a one-out single, his third hit of the game. After Casey McElroy followed with a single of his own, Cruz got the second out of the frame when he induced Yeison Asencio to fly out to center. That brought up Hunter Renfroe, who hit a slow chopper to Kemp at second. Kemp fielded the ball cleanly, but his throw was dropped by shortstop Ruben Sosa, allowing Spangenberg to score all the way from second.

After Luis De La Cruz (5-8) put up a zero in the top of the ninth, the Missions went back on the attack in their half. Adam Buschini got things started with a leadoff single. Cruz (7-6) responded by striking out Cody Overbeck for the first out of the frame. With Goris now up, Buschini attempted to steal second. On the play, Cruz's pitch skipped by catcher Rene Garcia, allowing Buschini to scamper all the way to third. Goris then gave San Antonio their fourth straight win when his fly out to center was deep enough to bring home Buschini.

The Missions have now won six straight games against the Hooks.

San Antonio (17-16, 53-50) begins a four-game series against Frisco (18-15, 58-44) Thursday at Dr Pepper Ballpark, with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Leonel Campos (0-3, 3.98) will get the ball for the Missions, while the RoughRiders counter with southpaw Edwar Cabrera (4-6, 2.99).
