San Antonio ran its season-high win streak to eight games following a 5-4 comeback victory over Frisco in Thursday night's series opener at Wolff Stadium.
The RoughRiders needed just two batters to take the lead Thursday night against Missions righty Enyel De Los Santos. Luke Tendler followed a leadoff single by Scott Heineman with a double down the right-field line.
San Antonio answered in its half against righty David Ledbetter, tying the game at one with Franmil Reyes' two-out RBI single to left.
The RoughRiders quickly went back to work on De Los Santos, plating a run in the second and two more in the third to take a 4-1 lead. Eric Aquilera delivered the first run of the third with a long homer off the scoreboard in right.
San Antonio crept back in the game against Ledbetter in the fourth courtesy of Nick Torres' two-run shot to right center. It was the second homer of the season for Torres.
Despite allowing a career-high 11 hits, De Los Santos kept the Missions in the game, keeping Frisco off the board over the fourth through sixth innings. His offense would eventually take him off the hook as a reward.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Missions worked a two-out rally against reliever Clayton Cook. Reyes got things started by working a walk. That brought up Noah Perio, who promptly knotted the score at four when he ripped a triple into right.
An inning later, San Antonio completed the comeback against Sam Wolff. The Missions loaded the bases with just one out on the righty via a Reyes single and a pair of walks. Wolff (1-3) appeared to be nearing an escape of the jam when he fanned José Rondón for the second out. However, during the next at-bat to Nick Schulz, Wolff uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Alberth Martinez to dash home from third with the go-ahead run.
Trey Wingenter fanned two during a perfect ninth to complete the comeback win and notch his second save. T.J. Weir (1-0), who rejoined the team earlier in the day from High-A Lake Elsinore, tossed two scoreless frames to earn the win.
San Antonio (19-14) continues its four-game series with Frisco (14-19) Friday at 7:05 PM. Reigning Texas League Pitcher of the Week Brett Kennedy (2-1, 4.94) will get the ball for the Missions, while the 'Riders counter with lefty Yohander Méndez (1-2, 3.72). The first 1,500 fans to enter The Wolff will receive a FREE Missions Grey Tweed Cap courtesy of IPAC Mazda.
Notes:Luis Urías finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a walk to extend his club, season-high on-base streak to 23 games. In addition to Weir, San Antonio also added righty Bryan Rodriguez from Triple-A El Paso. To make room on the roster, right-hander Barry Enright was traded to Colorado and lefty Thomas Dorminy was transferred to Lake Elsinore.
