Arkansas completed a three-game sweep of San Antonio with a convincing 6-2 victory Tuesday night at Wolff Stadium.
The Travs wasted little time getting to work Tuesday against Missions righty Michael Kelly as they grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first courtesy of a Kyle Waldrop two-RBI ground rule double to right center.
San Antonio got a run back off Arkansas right-hander Max Povse in the second when Alberth Martinez took a 0-2 pitch over the wall in left.
Kelly (0-1), who threw 70 pitches over the first two innings, was replaced by Eric Yardley to start the third. The Travs promptly jumped the sidearmer for three runs on five hits.
Arkansas (6-6) racked up 14 hits in the win, including Waldrop's solo blast off reliever Adam Cimber in the sixth that upped the lead to 6-1.
The run support was more than enough for Povse, who allowed just the one early run on four hits and one walk, while striking out a season-high seven over six strong innings. Povse (3-0) threw 60 of his 86 pitches for strikes.
Relievers Ryan Horstman, Peter Tago and Darin Gillies each tossed an inning to close out the game for the Travs.
Franmil Reyes capped scoring in the ninth with a solo homer off Gillies. It was his first homer at the Double-A level. Luis Urias was the only Mission to record a multi-hit game.
Though the bats struggled again, five San Antonio pitchers combined on 14 strikeouts.
Following an off day, San Antonio (6-6) will begin a four-game series Thursday night at Security Bank Ballpark against Midland (5-7). Texas League Pitcher of the Week Enyel Santos (1-0, 0.75) will take the ball Thursday night in the opener for the Missions, while the RockHounds counter with the tandem of LH Brandon Mann (1-1, 7.04) and RH Corey Walter (1-0, 0.82). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
