Braves promote No. 7 prospect William Contreras to M-Braves

PEARL, MS - The Atlanta Braves have made the following roster moves before tonight's 6:35 pm game against Biloxi, which affects the Mississippi Braves roster. C Jonathan Morales  has been promoted from Mississippi to Triple-A Gwinnett, and C William Contreras  has been promoted to Double-A Mississippi from High-A Florida. 

PEARL, MS - The Atlanta Braves have made the following roster moves before tonight's 6:35 pm game against Biloxi, which affects the Mississippi Braves roster. C Jonathan Morales  has been promoted from Mississippi to Triple-A Gwinnett, and C William Contreras  has been promoted to Double-A Mississippi from High-A Florida. 

Morales, 24, hit .206 (26-for-126) with six doubles, 11 RBI, nine runs and 14 walks over 39 games for the M-Braves this season. One of the premier minor league catchers, Morales committed no errors in 300.1 innings behind the plate and logged 29 assists and caught 26.4% of base stealers. 

The Arroyo, Puerto Rico native, is a .252 career batter and was an organizational All-Star in 2016. The Atlanta Braves selected Morales in the 25th round of the 2015 draft out of Miami Dade Community College. 

Contreras, 21, is the No. 7 overall prospect for the Atlanta Braves according to MLB Pipeline. Contreras was batting .263 (50-for-190) with 11 doubles, three home runs, 22 RBI and a .692 OPS in 50 games for the Florida Fire Frogs. The Puerto Cabello, VZ native has a .989 fielding percentage and has caught 32.6% of base stealers this season. 

Contreras split the 2019 season between Single-A Rome and High-A Florida, combining to bat .285/.347/.436 in 105 games between the two stops. He ended the season in the Top 10 among Braves farmhands (min. 200 PA) in doubles (T5th, 24), runs (T7th, 57), average (8th, .285), OPS (8th, .783), hits (9th, 111) and home runs (T9th, 11). Contreras was named Rome's Player of the Month for July and was named a South Atlantic League Post-Season All-Star.

William is the brother of Cubs catcher Willson Contreras. The Braves signed him as a non-drafted free agent, February 1, 2015.

Game four of the five-game set between the Magnolia State rivals is Wednesday night at Trustmark Park. RHP Ian Anderson (2-4, 3.27) makes his team-leading 12th start, and RHP Drew Rasmussen (0-0, 2.65) gets the ball for the Shuckers. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm with coverage beginning at 6:20 pm on 103.9 WYAB, TuneIn Radio, MiLB First Pitch app. and MiLB.TV (subscription required).
