Demeritte, Muller earn weekly honors

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, August 12. Mississippi Braves left fielder, Travis Demeritte and left-handed pitcher, Kyle Muller have been selected for the weekly awards.

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, August 12. Mississippi Braves left fielder, Travis Demeritte and left-handed pitcher, Kyle Muller have been selected for the weekly awards.

Demeritte, the 23-year old left fielder, has been named the Mississippi Farm Bureau Player of the Week for the third time this season after finishing the week with a .353 AVG (6-for-17) in addition to recording 9 R, 15 TB, 3 HR, 5 RBI and 7 BB over the course of five games played. The M-Braves left fielder also posted a .542 OBP, a .882 SLG, and a .1.424 OPS for the week. Demeritte's week was highlighted by hammering three home runs in three days, bringing his total to a team best, 15 HR on the season.
In 109 games played with the Mississippi Braves this season, Demeritte has tallied a .216/.315/.410 slash line accompanied by 60 R, 18 2B, 4 3B, 15 HR, 54 RBI, 150 TB, 52 BB, 5 SB and a .725 OPS. The Atlanta Braves No. 23 overall prospect currently leads the team in five offensive categories, runs scored (60), home runs (15), runs batted in (54), total bases (150), and base on balls (52). Demeritte has also appeared in more games (109) than any current M-Braves player and is tied with teammate, Daniel Lockhart as the team leader in triples (4). A native of Statham, Georgia, Demeritte was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the first round (30th overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Winder Barrow High School (Winder, GA). The former first round draft pick was acquired by the Atlanta Braves from the Texas Rangers on July 27, 2016 in exchange for LHP Dario Álvarez and RHP Lucas Harrell.
Muller, the 20-year old left-handed pitcher, garners Mississippi Farm Bureau Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time this season after an impressive first week in Double-A baseball. Muller who joined the M-Braves on August 6 after being promoted from High-A Florida went 2-0 on the week in his first two Double-A starts. The Atlanta Braves No. 11 overall prospect ended the week with a 4.09 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP. In his two starts combined, Muller tossed a total of 11.0 innings allowing just 7 H, 5 R, all earned, 1 HR, issued 3 BB and struck out 14. Muller's 14 strikeouts were the most recorded by any Double-A pitcher throughout the week.
After committing to The University of Texas, Muller opted to turn pro and sign with the Atlanta Braves. The Dallas, Texas native was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the second round (44th overall) of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of the prestigious Jesuit College Preparatory School (Dallas, Texas). As an outfielder and pitcher at Jesuit, Muller was named Gatorade's 2015-2016 National Baseball Player of the Year during his senior year of high school after posting a 0.49 ERA, recording 140 strikeouts and batting .392.
