PEARL, MS - The Jackson Generals defeated the Mississippi Braves by a final score of in the series opener at Trustmark Park on Thursday night.
Mississippi starter, Kyle Wright (1-3) started the game off well by striking out the side in the top of the first inning. The Generals managed to touch Wright for their first run of the game in the top of the second inning when Jay Gonzalez sent an RBI single into left field allowing Galli Cribbs Jr. to score.

Trailing 1-0, the M-Braves answered in the bottom of the second inning after Tyler Flowers, who was assigned to Mississippi earlier in the day as part of his MLB rehab assignment, scored from third base on a throwing error by Jackson starting pitcher, Jon Duplantier, evening the score 1-1.
After working himself into a pitching jam in the top of the fifth inning, Wright exited the game giving way to left-handed reliever, Tyler Pike. Wright ended his night having pitched 4.2 innings. The right-hander allowed eight hits, six runs, all earned, walked two and struck out seven. Wright's seven strikeouts are a season high for the 22-year old in 2018.
Mississippi and Jackson remained tied 1-1 until the top of the fifth inning when the Generals were able to take advantage of a few M-Braves pitching miscues, extending their lead 6-1.
The Generals would hold onto their 6-1 lead over the next four innings and capture a game one victory. Jon Duplantier (2-0, 1.80) earned the win for the Generals. The right hander tossed 5.0 innings, allowed four hits, one run, walked one and struck out eight. Wright (1-3, 4.66) suffered the loss for the M-Braves.
