PEARL, MS - Shea Langeliers hit a grand slam home run in the fourth inning on Thursday night, and the Mississippi Braves outlasted the Montgomery Biscuits at Trustmark Park, 7-6.

In a game that featured three home runs and 14 walks, the M-Braves (9-12) took a 2-1 series advantage after Montgomery (8-12) tied the game twice at 4-4 and 6-6, before finally staying ahead for good.

The M-Braves bullpen was put to the test early as starting pitcher Victor Vodnik left the game in the first inning to an apparent injury. Reliever Emmanuel Ramirez took over with one out in the first inning and stranded two runners on base to get out of the inning.

The Biscuits scored first on the first home run of the night, a solo shot by leadoff batter Miles Mastrobuoni in the top of the third.

The lead didn't last long as the Braves loaded the bases in the bottom of the third inning and Langeliers belted a Caleb Sampen pitch onto the berm in left field. The first grand slam at Trustmark Park for the Braves since 2018 gave the home team a 4-1 advantage. The 423-foot slam was the first of Langeliers' career and tied him with C.J. Alexander to lead with four long balls.

The Biscuits battled back to tie the game at 4-4 by plating three runs in the top of the fourth inning. After a walk, Ramirez gave up a two-run home run to Moises Gomez to make it 4-3. After another walk, Ramirez was lifted for Josh Graham, but a pair of wild pitches let the tying run score.

The Braves went back ahead, 5-4 in the fifth inning when Drew Lugbauer led off with a controversial double that appeared to be a home run down the right-field line. Lugbauer, though would score on an RBI groundout by Braden Shewmake. The Braves made it 6-4 in the seventh inning when Lugbauer collected his second hit to score Riley Unroe.

Once again, the Biscuits pushed across a pair of runs to tie the game. In the eighth, Brooks Wilson walked the first two batters and then surrendered an RBI double to Jim Haley. The tying run scored on a fielders' choice. The runs given up by Wilson were his first this season.

Daysbel Hernandez (W, 1-0) pitched out of trouble in the eighth inning and got a tremendous double play turned behind him by Unroe and Shewmake and recorded the final five outs to get the win. In total, the Braves used five pitchers on the night.

Game four of the six-game series between the M-Braves and Biscuits is on Friday night at 6:35 pm, with gates opening at 5:30 pm. RHP Odalvi Javier (0-0, 1.74) will start for the Braves against former first-round pick RHP Shane Baz (0-3, 2.55) for Montgomery.
