Lugbauer Blasts 28th Homer in M-Braves 5-3 Win Over Biscuits

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (61-72, 32-32) put together an all-around 5-3 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (68-60, 40-26) on Thursday night at Trustmark Park.

The scoring started in the second inning. With two outs, Arden Pabst reached on a base hit. Jordan Cowan then doubled down the left field line. Riley Delgado delivered a two-run single to right field to make it 2-0. The hit extended Delgado’s on-base streak to 16 games. Pabst picked up his second straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.

Montgomery tied the game at 2-2 with a two-run homer from Blake Hunt in the fifth.

RHP Tanner Gordon went five innings and allowed two runs in his final start of the season. In his final six starts, Gordon went 4-2 with a 3.00 ERA (11 ER/33.0 IP). In 21 starts for the M-Braves, Gordon went 9-6 with a 5.31 ERA over 98 1/3 innings. He struck out 97 and walked 37.

The M-Braves responded with an RBI single from Drew Lugbauer and a run on a double play to retake the lead 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth.

Niko Hulsizer homered to left center in the sixth inning to make it 4-3. All three of the Biscuits’ runs came on two homers, their only two hits of the game. The M-Braves finished with 10 hits.

In the eighth, Lugbauer smashed a solo shot to the bullpen in right field to extend the lead back out to 5-3. The homer was his 28th of the season. Lugbauer broke the M-Braves single season home run record with his 27th homer on Friday at Biloxi. He went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI tonight.

RHP Justin Maese pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 11th save of the season.

The fourth game of the series is on Friday at Trustmark Park. RHP Alan Rangel (5-7, 5.45) will make the start for Mississippi against a starter to be named for Montgomery. The first pitch is at 6:35 pm CT, with coverage starting at 6:20 pm CT on 103.9 WYAB, First Pitch App, and MiLB.tv.
