M-Braves Stunned by Shuckers Walk-Off Despite Three Home Runs

BILOXI, MS - The Mississippi Braves (29-42) smashed three home runs, Yariel Gonzalez delivered a go-ahead two-run shot to right field in the ninth, but Jackson Reetz hit a walk-off two-run homer to give the Biloxi Shuckers (36-33) a 7-6 win on Wednesday night at MGM Park.

The M-Braves dropped their fifth game in a row, their second longest losing streak of the season.

The M-Braves scored in the opening frame for the second straight night. CJ Alexanderbelted a two-run homer to right field to give the M-Braves a 2-0 lead.

The homer was Alexander’s 13th of the season, which is tied for sixth in the Southern League.

The Shuckers scored three runs in the first to retake the lead 3-2 and chase starter Alan Rangel out of the game.

In the third, Cody Milligan dropped a liner into center field to score Andrew Moritz and tie the game at 3. The RBI was Milligan’s first in Double-A since being promoted on June 21 from High-A Rome.

Moritz lost his 11-game hit streak but reached on a walk to continue a 12-game on-base streak.

Hendrik Clementina smacked a solo homer over the state sign in left field to give the M-Braves a 4-3 lead in the fourth.

Clementina is hitting .238 with seven home runs and 21 RBI in 48 games this season.

RHP Troy Bacon took over for Rangel and provided 3 1/3 innings of critical shutout relief. The right-hander struck out three hitters and gave up just two hits.

Bacon is 2-1 with a 1.75 ERA over his last 12 outings and 25 2/3 innings.

In the sixth, Biloxi brought across two runs to lead 5-4.

RHP Odalvi Javier and RHP Justin Yeager each added a scoreless frame, with Yeager striking out the side in the eighth.

The Shuckers stayed in front until the ninth. After a leadoff single by Drew Lugbauer, infielder Gonzalez crushed a two-run homer to right field to give the M-Braves a 6-5 lead.

Gonzalez is batting .238 with eight homers and 24 RBI.

In the bottom of the inning, Reetz stunned the M-Braves with a two-run home run to walk off the Shuckers 7-6. Reetz has a league-leading 16 homers this season.

The third game of the series is on Thursday at MGM Park. RHP Freddy Tarnok (1-2, 4.88) makes the start for Mississippi against RHP Nick Bennett (3-6, 5.40) for Biloxi. The first pitch is at 6:35 pm CT, with coverage starting at 6:20 pm CT on 103.9 WYAB, TuneIn Radio, First Pitch App, and MiLB.tv.
