Mississippi Drops Series Finale to Tennessee 5-4

RHP Hursh ties all-time franchise strikeout record despite loss

Pearl, MS - The Mississippi Braves (3-2) hosted the Tennessee Smokies (2-3) in the fifth and final game of their opening week homestand and dropped the contest by a final score of 5-4.
LHP, Ricardo Sánchez (0-1) earned the start for the M-Braves but suffered the loss after allowing three hits, two runs, one earned run, and walking three in 3.0 IP. Sanchez also struck out three Smokies batters in his 2018 debut with the M-Braves.

Despite the loss, several Mississippi hitters turned in solid performances on the afternoon. M-Braves second baseman, Daniel Lockhart went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Lockhart also collected his first home run of the 2018 season after blasting a line drive well over the right field wall in the bottom of the third inning to get the M-Braves on the board.
Mississippi catcher, Jonathan Morales also had a solid afternoon at the plate. The 23-year old recorded his first multi-hit game of the season after going 2-for-4 with an RBI and is now sporting a .333 average on the season.
RHP, Jason Hursh also provided a bright spot for the M-Braves on Monday afternoon when he recorded the 201st strikeout of his M-Braves career, tying Scott Diamond for the all-time strikeout record in Mississippi Braves history.
The Mississippi Braves will take advantage of an off day on Tuesday before traveling to Biloxi, MS for a five game road series against their in-state rival, the Biloxi Shuckers. Fans can tune in to 103.9 WYAB-FM to hear all of the action.
