OF Brandon Downes acquired in trade from Kansas City

PEARL, MS - The Atlanta Braves have made the following roster move affecting the M-Braves roster prior to tonight's 7:00 pm game against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at Trustmark Park. OF Brandon Downes  has been acquired by the Braves via trade from the Kansas City Royals. 

PEARL, MS - The Atlanta Braves have made the following roster move affecting the M-Braves roster prior to tonight's 7:00 pm game against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at Trustmark Park. OF Brandon Downes  has been acquired by the Braves via trade from the Kansas City Royals. 

Downes, 25, has played in 29 games this season between High-A Wilmington and Double-A Arkansas in the Kansas City Royals organization. The South Plainfield, NJ native batted .196 with seven doubles, three home runs, and 16 RBI. He carries a .246 career batting average over five pro seasons and 384 games with 45 home runs and 50 stolen bases. 

Downes hit 13 home runs in just 261 at-bats (20.08 AB/HR) in 2017, the second-best rate among Royals minor leaguers, trailing only Jorge Soler. Downes was selected in the seventh round of the 2014 draft by the Royals out of the University of Virginia. He batted .316 with 10 home runs and 59 RBI as a sophomore and ranked among the top 10 players in the country in triples and runs. He helped lead Virginia to its first College World Series in 2014 and was named to the College World Series and Charlottesville Regional All-Tournament Teams. He Batted .327 in NCAA tournament in which the Cavaliers finished runner-up to Vanderbilt. 

The Mississippi Braves roster currently stands at 25 active players and five on the DL.
