When the Chicago White Sox take the field tonight against the Seattle Mariners, it will mark the Major League debut of OF Daniel Palka (Chicago's #30 prospect), a member of the 2013 Missoula Osprey. Palka joins RHP Silvino Bracho and RHP Steve Hathaway as the third member of the 2013 club to reach the show.
Palka was a 3rd round selection in the MLB First-Year Player Draft of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2013. Selected out of Georgia Tech, Palka earned 2013 Baseball America Preseason All-American honors, becoming the first Yellow Jackets outfielder to receive the honor since 1994, in addition to leading the ACC in HR while batting .342 with 66 RBI and being named to the first team All-Atlantic Coast Conference.
Drafted as a first-baseman, Palka split time between the hot corner (third base) and first during his tenor with the Osprey where he slashed .302/.386/.502 with 7 HR and 38 RBI in 56 games. In 2015 Palka was traded to the Minnesota Twins for C Chris Herrmann, where he spent time on the 40-man roster before being claimed on waivers by the Chicago White Sox in November of 2017.
Palka is slashing .286/.384/.476 in 17 games for Triple-A Charlotte so far this season.
The 26-year-old Palka becomes the 64th Osprey alum to reach the big leagues.
The O's open their 2018 season on the road against the Billings Mustangs June 15. The Osprey home opener is set for June 19 against the Helena Brewers. Osprey ticket plans are available now and can be purchased at the MSO Hub, by phone at (406) 543-3300 and online at MissoulaOsprey.com.
