When the Baltimore Orioles took the field last night against the Toronto Blue Jays, it marked the Major League debut of RHP Yefry Ramirez, a member of the 2014, and the 2015 Pioneer League Champion Missoula Osprey.
Ramirez, who was an International Free Agent signing of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2012 out of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, took a well journeyed path to his current gig with the Orioles. Ramirez began his career in 2012 and 2013 in the Dominican Summer League with the DSL D-backs. After a stint with the AZL Diamondbacks in 2014, where he was named an Arizona League Postseason All-Star, Ramirez was promoted to the Missoula Osprey. He returned to the Osprey in 2015, where he was selected as a Pioneer League Mid-Season All-Star, finishing the season 4th in WHIP (1.29) and 5th in strikeouts (61). In 2016 Ramirez was selected in the Rule 5 Draft (AAA phase) by the New York Yankees, just over a year later he was included in a midseason trade to the Baltimore Orioles in 2017. In 2017 Ramirez ranked among the Eastern League (AA) leaders in wins (1st, 15), complete games (T-1, 3), winning percentage (1st, .833), K/9 among starters (1st, 8.47), and ERA (7th, 3.47).
During his time with the Osprey in 2015, Ramirez posted a 5-5 record in 13 starts, with a 5.35 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 69 innings pitched. Ramirez was a key piece in the dominant 2015 roster on their way to claim the Osprey's fourth league title.
The 24-year-old Ramirez becomes the 63rd Osprey alum to reach the big leagues.
The O's open their 2018 season on the road against the Billings Mustangs June 15. The Osprey home opener is set for June 19 against the Helena Brewers. Osprey ticket plans are available now and can be purchased at the MSO Hub, by phone at (406) 543-3300 and online at MissoulaOsprey.com.
