MOBILE, Ala. (July 6, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, broke a tie in the eighth inning for the second straight game to defeat the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 4-3 Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Zane Gurwitz delivered a go-ahead single off Vincenzo Aiello (0-1). Erick Salcedo scored to put the BayBears (35-50 overall, 8-9 second half) back in front 4-3, after blowing a one-run lead in the top of the frame.
Mobile erased an early 2-0 deficit with a run in the fourth and two in the fifth. Brandon Sandoval plated the first run with a single, and Jack Kruger hit a two-run single the following inning.
Tyler Carpenter allowed two runs on five hits in a five-inning start and struck out a season-high six batters. The BayBears pitching staff struck out 11 total Jacksonville (38-49, 9-8) hitters. Ryan Clark (2-0) earned the win out of the bullpen, and Dario Beltre recorded his sixth save.
The BayBears continue the six-game home series against Jacksonville Sunday at 6:05 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Luis Madero (4-5, 4.55 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Kolton Mahoney (1-0, 3.18 ERA) for the Jumbo Shrimp.
