BILOXI, Miss. (August 13, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, were held to just one run on three hits and were defeated 7-1 by the Biloxi Shuckers in the series opener Tuesday night at MGM Park.
After being shut out for the first seven innings, the BayBears (43-74 overall, 16-33 second half) plated a run in the eighth inning. Jahmai Jones drew a walk, advanced two bases on a pair of wild pitches, and scored when Cooper Hummel misplayed a Brandon Marsh fly ball.
Bowden Francis (6-7) came just one strikeout shy of his career-high, fanning 11 batters in five scoreless frames. Biloxi (73-47, 32-18) punched out 18 Mobile batters in the game and struck out the side in three innings.
The Shuckers got on the board in the bottom of the second with three runs on three doubles against Jeremy Beasley (6-7). Bruce Caldwell and Cooper Hummel hit home runs in the sixth and seventh, respectively, and Robie Rojas plated a run with an eighth-inning single.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Biloxi Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. Left-handed pitcher Greg Mahle (1-2, 1.80 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against southpaw Cameron Roegner (5-4, 4.58 ERA) for the Shuckers.
