MOBILE, Ala. (August 29, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, erased an early two-run deficit but fell 4-3 to the Tennessee Smokies in the series opener Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
After falling behind 2-0, Jhoan Urena 's fourth-inning double cut Tennessee's lead in half. Julian Leon tied the game with his fifth home run of the season the following inning, and Roberto Baldoquin contributed for the BayBears (49-83 overall, 22-42 second half) with a long ball in the ninth.
However, the Smokies (55-80, 22-44) were able to prevail despite leaving 13 runners on base in the game. Tennessee went just 3-for-17 with runners in scoring position, but broke the tie on a Vimael Machin RBI single against Austin Warren (1-2) in the sixth.
Chih-Wei Hu (1-1) earned the win, although he allowed two runs on six hits in three innings. Oscar De La Cruz worked around the Baldoquin home run to record his second save.
