MOBILE, Ala. (April 7, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, won their first game of the Farewell Season 2-1 in 11 innings against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Sunday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Roberto Peña went 3-for-5 and delivered the game-winning hit, a leadoff single off Sam Clay (0-1) in the bottom of the 11th to score Roberto Baldoquin . Pena is 4-for-7 at the plate in his first two games this season.
Dario Beltre (1-0) retired all six batters he faced in the 10th and 11th. He induced four ground ball outs and two flyouts to keep Pensacola (3-1) off the board, despite having a runner on third base in both innings.
Max Herrmann made the start for the BayBears (1-3) and tossed four scoreless frames before allowing an unearned run in the fifth. Herrmann only gave up three hits, two of which stayed in the infield, in 4 1/3 innings pitched.
Brandon Sandoval also had a multi-hit game, including an RBI single to drive in Baldoquin and tie the game in the seventh. Sandoval has gone 5-for-13 in the first four games.
The BayBears wrap up the five-game home series against Pensacola Monday at 6:35 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Jose Rodriguez (0-0, -.-- ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Sean Poppen (0-0, -.-- ERA) for the Blue Wahoos.
