JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (August 24, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, scored a first-inning run for the fifth straight game but fell to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 3-1 Saturday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Max Herrmann (1-3) pitched a complete game in a losing effort, giving up three runs on seven hits in a career-high eight innings. Herrmann allowed just one hit through the first five innings before Jacksonville (64-67 overall, 35-26 second half) tallied three runs on five hits over the next two frames.
Brandon Marsh hit a solo home run in the top of the first to give the BayBears (48-80, 21-39) an early lead. It was Marsh's seventh home run on the season, and he finished the game 3-for-4.
Josh Roeder retired the next 16 batters after Marsh's long ball, and he gave up just the lone run on two hits in a six-inning start. Jordan Guerrero (1-0) earned the win in relief, and Tommy Eveld recorded his 10th save.
The BayBears continue the six-game road series against Jacksonville with a doubleheader Sunday, beginning at 3:35 p.m. CDT.
