MOBILE, Ala. (September 1, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, scored six runs in the first two innings and defeated the Tennessee Smokies 8-4 Sunday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Greg Mahle (3-3) recorded his third straight quality start, allowing one run on six hits in seven innings. He retired the first eight batters of the game and did not give up a run until the top of the sixth.
Gareth Morgan and Jordan Zimmerman plated five of the first six runs for the BayBears (50-85 overall, 23-44 second half) against Erick Uelmen (0-3). Morgan finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs, and Zimmerman drove in a pair of runs with two hits.
Despite three Smokies (57-81, 24-45) runs in the top of the ninth, the BayBears were able to prevail and earn their 50th win of the season to snap a five-game losing streak.
The BayBears wrap up the Farewell Season against Tennessee Monday at 12:05 p.m., with left-handed pitcher Max Herrmann (1-3, 5.29 ERA) scheduled to make the start.
