MOBILE, Ala. (May 22, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, scored in just one inning, and it was more than enough in a 3-0 shutout victory over the Biloxi Shuckers in the series opener Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Luis Madero (2-2) earned his second win with five scoreless innings. He allowed just three hits and left a pair of runners in scoring position. Biloxi (24-22) went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position in the game, and left 11 men stranded.
Joe Gatto , Adam Hofacket , Adrian Almeida , and Ryan Clark combined to keep the Shuckers off the board for the final four innings. It was Mobile's sixth shutout win this season, and Gatto has pitched in five of them. Clark earned his team-high fourth save, and the BayBears are now 13-of-15 in save situations, the best save percentage in the Southern League.
With two outs and no score in the bottom of the fifth, Connor Justus got the BayBears (19-26) on the board with an RBI double off Alec Bettinger (1-4). Jahmai Jones drove him in with a single and scored two batters later on a Jack Kruger base hit.
Jhoan Urena extended his on-base streak to 19 games with a single in the second inning. He has the longest active streak in the league and is just one game shy of tying the longest overall streak this season.
