MOBILE, Ala. (August 6, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, will be celebrating Jake Peavy Appreciation Night this Saturday, August 11 at Hank Aaron Stadium. The evening will feature a Jake Peavy meet-and-greet and a 2002 Jake Peavy BayBears shirsey giveaway, presented by Cook's Pest Control.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. for Saturday's event, beginning with a meet-and-greet in the Cytranet Event Center from 6 - 6:40 p.m. Peavy will be available to sign autographs, take photos, and talk with fans during this time period. A t-shirt mimicking the BayBears home jersey that Peavy wore during the 2002 season will be given to fans when gates open at 6 p.m. (while supplies last). Peavy will throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the BayBears game at 7:05 p.m. against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

Additionally, Saturday's game will be a $1 concessions night with dollar hot dogs, popcorn, chips, Pepsi products, Mini Melts ice cream, and BayBears ice pops. It will also be the first "Thirsty Saturday" of the season, with dollar beers being sold during the game.

Peavy, a Mobile native, was a three-time Major League All-Star and a two-time World Series Champion with the 2013 Boston Red Sox and 2014 San Francisco Giants. He was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 15th round of the 1999 MLB Draft out of St. Paul's Episcopal School and pitched in 19 games with the BayBears from 2001-2002.

Peavy was promoted straight to the Majors from Mobile, skipping the Triple-A level and making his MLB debut for the Padres on June 22, 2002. In 388 Major League games with the Padres, Red Sox, Giants, and Chicago White Sox, Peavy posted a 152-126 record with a career 3.63 ERA and 2,207 strikeouts. He won the National League Cy Young Award in 2007 with San Diego after recording the Pitching Triple Crown, leading the league with 19 wins, 240 strikeouts, and a 2.54 ERA.

The BayBears return home Wednesday, August 8 at 6:35 p.m. for a five-game homestand against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Tickets for Saturday's Jake Peavy Appreciation Night, as well as any of the remaining 15 home games this season, are available for as low as $8 for adults and $6 for children, senior citizens, and active/retired military.
