Modesto, CA. - A wild pitch plated the only run in the Modesto Nuts' 1-0 win over the Inland Empire 66ers on Saturday night at John Thurman Field.
After Austin Hutchison turned in a gem for the Nuts (53-72; 23-32), the game was still scoreless heading into the seventh.
Spencer Herrmann (W, 1-0) relieved Hutchison in the seventh and walked the bases loaded but also struck out the side and kept the game tied a zero.
In the bottom of the seventh, Eduardo Rivera (L, 2-5) took the mound for the 66ers (63-61; 30-25). He walked the bases loaded before uncorking a wild pitch to score Jack Larsen. Rivera recorded just one out while walking four before being taken out of the ballgame.
Anthony McIver (S, 2/3) had to strand a leadoff double in the ninth to help the Nuts secure their third straight win.
Hutchison was lights out in his start for Modesto. The righty recorded six strikeouts in the first three innings on his way to a career-high eleven K's. Hutchison worked six innings and allowed just three hits with no walks.
The biggest defensive play in the game came from Anthony Jimenez. With two outs and a runner at second in the third inning, Jordan Zimmerman floated a fly ball into shallow center. Jimenez laid out to make the catch saving the run and ending the inning.
Michael Santos worked five shutout innings allowing just two hits in his California League debut.
