San Jose, CA. - Thanks to some dominant pitching, the Modesto Nuts were able to come from behind to defeat the Giants 6-3 in the rubber game of a three-game set at Municipal Stadium.
Down by two entering the seventh inning, Caleb Barager (L, 0-2) replaced Giants (23-18) starter Melvin Adon. Anthony Jimenez reached on an error to start the inning. After he advanced to third, he scored the first run of the four-run seventh inning on an error by the first baseman Frandy De La Rosa.
Gareth Morgan drove in the tying run with a RBI single. Donnie Walton gave the Nuts (18-23) the lead with a RBI double. Nick Zammarelli accepted a bases-loaded walk to cap the four-run inning. Evan White added a RBI double in the ninth. Five different players recorded a RBI for the Nuts in the victory.
Randy Bell (W, 2-2) started the game for the Nuts and allowed just one earned run. He worked six innings and allowed five hits, all in the first three innings. After Jason Heyward's RBI single in the third, Bell retired the final eleven in a row. Overall he struck out six and did not walk a batter.
Jeffeson Medina worked a perfect seventh. Jack Anderson did the same in the eighth. Wyatt Mills (S, 4/6) retired the first batter of the ninth inning, the 18th consecutive batter retired by Nuts pitching. The Giants would threaten after that though. Mills allowed a double to De La Rosa before a pair of walks. With the bases loaded and two outs, Mills got Matt Winn to groundout to second to end the threat and give the Nuts the series victory.
