First Inning Burst Sends Nuts to 13-3 Loss

Stockton, CA. - An eight-run first inning sent the Modesto Nuts to a 13-3 loss against the Stockton Ports on Sunday night at Banner Island Ballpark. The loss is the Nuts' (30-44; 0-4) fifth straight and it sends them to their first sweep of the season. Nick Wells (L, 0-1)

Stockton, CA. - An eight-run first inning sent the Modesto Nuts to a 13-3 loss against the Stockton Ports on Sunday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
The loss is the Nuts' (30-44; 0-4) fifth straight and it sends them to their first sweep of the season.
Nick Wells (L, 0-1) made his California League debut on Sunday and was able to record just one out. He surrendered four straight singles to start the bottom of the first inning before Jonah Heim singled home two runs. Wells issued a walk to load the bases before he gave up a bases-loaded walk to Luke Persico. Luis Barrera followed with a RBI single. The only out he recorded was a strikeout of Sandber Pimentel. Collin Theroux ended Wells' debut when he shot an opposite-field grand slam.
Meanwhile, Xavier Altamirano (W, 1-0) dominated for the Ports (48-26; 4-0) in his California League debut. The righty worked seven shutout innings while retiring the side in order over the first three innings. He surrendered just two hits while striking out eight including four in a row at one point.
