MODESTO, CA. - After tying the game in the sixth, the San Jose Giants scored twice in the seventh to send the Modesto Nuts to a 5-3 loss on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field.
Joe Rizzo doubled and Cal Raleigh walked to start the Nuts' (20-25) sixth-inning rally. After a sac bunt, a wild pitch brought Rizzo in from third to get the Nuts on the board for the first time.
That's when Olbis Parra (W, 2-1) checked into the game for the Giants (20-23). Jack Larsen, with his second hit of the day, singled home Raleigh to make it a one-run game. Larsen then stole second and moved to third on an error. Ariel Sandoval tied the game by beating out an RBI infield single.
In the top of the seventh, the Giants came back with a pair of runs against Scott Boches (L, 1-4). With a pair of runners in scoring position, Peter Maris hit a shot to first that Eugene Helder was unable to handle allowing the go-ahead runs to score.
The Nuts would get one more baserunner offensively over the last three innings while Frank Rubio (S, 4/4) retired the side in the ninth to send the Giants to their sixth straight win.
Ray Kerr started the game for the Nuts working 5.1 innings allowing three runs on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts.
The Nuts return to action on Wednesday with the middle affair of a three-game series against Giants. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:50 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC by clicking HERE
