Stockton, CA. - After some early pop, the Stockton Ports nickel-and-dimed the Modesto Nuts to a 9-2 defeat on Friday night at Banner Island Ballpark.

Kyle Lewis put the Nuts (30-42; 0-2) on the board first when he launched a first-inning home run out to center against Ports (46-26; 2-0) starter Zack Erwin (W, 6-5).

In the bottom of the first, the Ports came back against the Nuts' starter Colin Rodgers (L, 2-3). After recording the first out of the inning, the Ports recorded three straight singles ahead of Will Toffey who launched a grand slam.

In the third, Evan White whacked a solo home run to cut into the deficit for the Nuts. Sandber Pimentel got that run back when he lifted a home run in the fourth.

The Ports opened the game in the fifth inning with four runs on just three singles. Rodgers was knocked out of the game after two singles and a walk led to one run. Jack Anderson checked in out of the bullpen. He allowed an infield single to Toffey before Luke Persico singled home a run. Luis Barrera and Sandber Pimentel each drove in runs with RBI fielder's choices capping the four-run fifth.

Rodgers worked four-plus innings and was charged with six runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking one.

Erwin worked six innings in his start for the Ports. He allowed eight hits but just two runs with five strikeouts.

Austin Hutchison was terrific out of the Nuts' bullpen working three perfect innings with three strikeouts.
