Stockton, CA. - Kyle Lewis smashed a game-tying home run in the eighth, but the Modesto Nuts lost 4-3, in walk-off fashion, in ten innings against the Stockton Ports on Saturday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
In the eighth, Lewis lifted his second home run in the last two games for the Nuts (30-43; 0-3) to tie the game at three. Wyatt Mills tossed two scoreless innings out of the Nuts' bullpen after that to get the game into extra innings.
Angel Duno (W, 3-0) worked the tenth for the Ports (47-26; 3-0). The Nuts loaded the bases with no outs before Kevin Santa bounced into a double play. Evan White flew out to center to end the threat.
In the bottom of the tenth, Seth Elledge (L, 3-1) checked into the game with the bonus runner on at second base. On Elledge's third pitch, Dairon Blanco ripped a single into center to score Brallan Perez. The loss is the Nuts' fourth straight. They will need a win on Sunday to avoid a four-game series sweep.
Reggie McClain started the game for the Nuts and had thrown well. The right worked six innings and allowed nine hits but just two earned runs. He struck out three and walked one.
The Nuts got to Ports starter Dustin Hurlbutt for two runs. Luis Liberato drove in a first-inning run with a RBI groundout. Ryan Scott added a sac fly in the fourth. Hurlbutt tossed five innings allowing five hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
